2014.8.31

Hurricane Marie has officially exhausted her store of waves and we're back to summer slop. It's looking knee to waist high with sun in the sky. Wind is steady and chop already making an appearance. 2.2ft Low at 9:10, 5.9ft High at 16:50. There is a little long period SW showing on the buoy but not enough to make the average period jump up from 6 seconds. Keep you're eye on it and if it goes up a second or two expect some more juice in the water.

2014.8.30

Size and period have dropped off substantially since yesterday. We're looking mostly at waist to chest high shoulders with best waves reaching head high at the peak. It's looking crowded but it's also looking real, real clean. Wind is very light for now and there is little to no surface bump in the lineup. 5.85ft high tide at 3:05 brings with it mushy shore break but it's a beautiful day at the beach so come anytime and wait around until the surf suits your fancy.

Hurricane Marie is still putting out today. We're seeing consistent head high to overhead faces roll through on the low tide this morning. Wind is light, waves are open and heavy. Another good day to KNOW YOUR LIMITS -- I surfed the patch at Bolinas yesterday and it was the funnest session I've had this summer.

WARNING: HIGH ENERGY HURRICANE SWELL DAY # 2 -- ADVANCED/EXPERT SURFERS ONLY
If you can't take 5ft of whitewater on the head without breaking a sweat or second guessing yourself go to another spot. Bolinas is having yet ANOTHER really good day for anyone who isn't comfortable in HEAVY double overhead surf. For those still interested We're looking at more of the same as yesterday with maybe a little extra on the bigger sets of the morning as swell has built in fully at this point. More adrenaline rushes to be had for anyone who didn't get their fill yesterday.

Looking glassy this morning despite the light n' steady onshore breeze. Mostly waist to chest high with the drained tide but expect good sets to go head high + on the incoming tide. KNOW YOUR LIMITS. It felt like a board breaking day yesterday afternoon and today will likely be similar. Most lines look open but are moving really fast. Fun day for your fastest board. 5.6ft high @ 1 PM, 1.75 low @ 6:35 PM

Steady fairly strong onshore breeze. Chopped up and sloppy. It's not looking pretty but there are actually fun waist-chest looking lines showing up. Tide filling in will likely clean it up some but with swell fading some longer lulls between bigger (chest high +) sets.

2014.8.24

More of yesterdays energy and looking clean. Word got out and there are more than a few guys out but looks like plenty of waves to share. Short period makes for split peaks down the beach. Looking chest to head high probably going plus on select sets and more often as the tide fills in to a 5.4 high @ 12:10. Another day to KNOW YOUR LIMITS. Bigger sets will roll through and especially with the crowd it can be dangerous out there. Sun came out to play around noon yesterday so keep your fingers crossed for today.

Lots of stormy jumbled groundswell out there today. Combo SW + a touch of NW wind swell is doubling up to make for some juicy surf. Chest to head high going a little overhead on select sets. Some fun looking inside corners between lots of sloppy choppy closeouts. KNOW YOUR LIMITS today. If you can't easily duck dive 3-4 ft of whitewater cron is not your break today because that's the minimum you'll encounter. Wind was steady but light enough to leave the inside bowls glassy.

Overcast, steady onshore breeze but with less chop in the water than you'd suspect. Lots and lots of shorter period (9-12 sec) energy showing up today from a steep SW mixing with more local (7-9 sec) NW windswell. Lots of fun looking thigh to chest high corners coming in despite the generally sloppy-ish conditions. 5.25ft high @ 11:10 followed by a 2.4 low @ 4:10.

Drizzly overcast morning. Very little pulse showing in the water. Looks to be about shin to thigh high with occasional waist high sets and likely a less occasional chest high set thrown into the mix. South swell had mostly faded out of the mix aside from throwing the odd wave every hour or three; otherwise it's 8-10 sec wind swell out there and it shows in the dis-organization. Probably some nice little corners on the inside for a long or funboard.

Conservatively calling it shin to waist high with good sets going chest high; only looked at it for 3-4 minutes so hard to say what a good set looks like. We're supposed to stay more or less overcast today and this morning so far it's been damp. Low tide is 2.55 @ 12:20

UPDATE: NEW PICS @ 9:30 + ROAD UPDATE

Run from the seals! *cough* I mean, run for the seals! Traffic was too bad for me to make it down to the beach and by the looks of it too bad for everyone else too. Looks like head high lines with not a soul out there catching them. I think this party's supposed to clear up by mid afternoon (2 or so O'clock) and it'll be one way traffic outbound they're clearing out. Kind of a funky day, I'll be riding my bike down shortly and try to bring back more info once I've more closely surveyed the scene.

2014.8.15

Some solid new SW showing up today with an 18 sec period. 13-14 sec SW is dominant and the combo is making for some juicy surf. Lots of chest high + sets on the drained out low tide means things will easily go head high on the push. There's a tiny bit of wind and some big chop in the channels but the inside shoulders are staying nice and glassy if you can find them. Lots of sets are closed out and things are generally hard to get into right now but hopefully it'll soften up with the higher tide.

Some 17 sec SW started registering on the buoy yesterday evening with fair consistency looking biggest towards the high tide and coming down steadily with the ebb. From this + the photos I took just before low this morning we can induce that this swell probably likes more tide. It'll be a tricky dance since more water will will probably bring close outs with this longer period unless it drops a few seconds. In any case there'll probably be some fun ones with the tide turn around. I'll probably check it around 13:30 on my break and re-report, but do yourself a favor and play detective; look at the buoy!

Overcast, medium light winds w/ a little surface bump. The swell hadn't shown up in full force but seems to appearing fashionable late, and incrementally. The crowds however, arrived as predicted. Little bits of 13-14 sec SW started showing over last night and then the first taste of 17 sec SW popped up an hour ago. Waves are looking chest high + and will likely build into the head high range through the day. Consistency seemed medium-high in the 5 minutes I watched it.

Looking a lot like yesterday morning but cleaner. Less chop/wind in general. Chest high with plus sets mixed in between long lulls. SW swell came down in period from 14ish to 11 or so seconds over yesterday so you have to wait for the bendy/double up ones if you want a wall with some juice in it. Otherwise pack some volume and there'll be some fun ones for everyone if it doesn't get too crowded. Few people have picked up on this SW coming in so crowds probably won't really show until tomorrow/Thursday.

Knee to waist high -- there were actually some fun looking ones in the middle of the beach despite no one being there. Overcast with a light cross shore breeze.
