2014.9.30

AFTERNOON UPDATE:
Still no sign of waves through the afternoon high tide. Chances are looking slim for waves today but there may be some thigh high lines towards the evening low for those willing to bring out a log.

Another flat morning here at rodeo. Looking a little more hopeful than yesterday with some tiny NW windswell ankle biters actually making it through and breaking 10-15 ft from the sand. There is a 1 ft 18 sec SW forecast to show up later this afternoon which could be fun now that the bars are back in place. The 5.8 ft 16:00 high tide might kill it but my guess is there'll be some inconsistent but fun little choppy lines just before sunset. Keep your eyes

Very close to lake-like conditions this morning. 1ft shore break and no surfable waves to speak of. Great day to launch a kayak or canoe from the beach for some fishing or just exploring. Keep tuned for new SW forecast to build in between the 2nd and 3rd later this week.

Just a little dribble of juice this morning. Waves ankle to shin high, knee high on the best sets. Wind light onshore. Grey skies. Low of 2.6ft @ 8:00 then 6ft @ 14:20 and last low of 0.4ft @ 21:00 but none of it matters much with waves so damn small. Good day to go try OB for beginners.

Things are mighty small in the ways of ocean energy present at rodeo this morning. Waves are caping out on the low tide at waist high and squishy, and that's on the better sets. Wind is light onshore. 6ft high tide at 13:40 will have things feeling real shore-breaky. avoid the high by 2-3 hours and there are some fun little waves for beginners to practice pop ups on. 0.4ft low @ 20:05.

Morning of the small sweet shoulder. 1.7ft 6:45 low + lots of new bars brought in from a good stirring of the sand has it all drained out this morning. High tide isn't actually a bad bet today with a higher volume board. Wind is very light onshore. Waves thigh to waist occasionally chest high. Look for things to progressively clean up and get squishier as the tide comes in then do the reverse as the tide goes out again. High tide 6ft @ 13:10 followed by a .5ft low @ 19:25.

2014.9.25

AFTERNOON UPDATE
I retract the warning of this morning. Waves never got the extra pop and remain roughly head high through the high tide. Things got a lot cleaner and the wind is still light so come out and get some waves! 0.7ft low tide @ 18:45 will drain some size & add some bump but the juice should still be there.

Lumpy, Grumpy and Dumpy today. Light offshore wind and clear air under partly overcast skies. Low tide drained the size and waves are chest high to ~a little overhead. Expect size to go 1.5 to double that with the coming of the high tide. WARNING don't surf cron today unless you A) like a SERIOUS challenge B) Are a masochist OR C) are frothing for and can handle the rush of both catching and or getting pounded by big surf. It might clean up with the tide getting higher but the way the size will come back it'll just be that much more challenging.

2014.9.24

Dinker stuff around 9 when I checked it this morning. Wind is light and cross from the NW. We're looking at the first big NW swell of the season building in over the course of today so cross your fingers folks. Also BE WEARY. Fast rising storm swell + afternoon low tide + no sand covering the reef right now makes for many potentially dangerous situations. Avoid the big 8.5ft 12:10 high tide but be careful of the 0.9ft 18:12 low as the swell may build in quick and what used to be sandy bottoms may be lots o rock at this point. The new swell is supposed to start showing up between noon and 18:00 so keep your eyes on the buoy for a predominant direction of NW and a rising avg period and you'll know this swell is making an appearance.

Small and clean with sun in the sky this morning. Light offshore wind plus a low tide and short period swell make for some fun looking knee to waist high waves but don't expect them to last. 5.75ft high tide @ 11:45 will put a serious dampener on things. It may recover in the afternoon to more nice baby surf nearing the 1.15ft low tide at 17:40 but probably not before the wind reverses itself.

Wind light onshore. Waves thigh to waist high probably going chest and maybe even head high on select sets. Consistent 14-15 sec SW rolling in today. Lots of guys on bigger boards pulling in thigh to waist high waves and taking 'em all the way to shore. 10:30 5.4ft high dampens things a bit but anything it loses will come back fast heading for the 2ft low at 16:00. Coastal clean up is under way so pick up some trash on your way back to the parking lot if you don't usually do that already.

Storm swell continues with only residual long period SW of 15ish sec still making it through for the occasional appearance. Lumpy and grey today. Waves waist to chest high, occasional head high sets. Wind is medium-light and cross but wouldn't make much difference as it's all already chopped to near death. There are a few guys picking up quite a few lines but expect to see less at the tide comes to a 5.25ft high at 10:00. Low is 2.25 @ 3:10 and should bring a little more pop back into it in the afternoon.

Looking lumpy bumpy and dumpy in the water with waves waist to chest to head high + & even head and a half in spots down the beach. The sand bars are really messed up right now. Two troopers are fighting to find lines but in 5 minutes I was watching it I saw nary a drop between the two. Advanced/Expert body surfing at the beach today as far as I can see it. This SW swell is finicky. Wen't into a long lull yesterday afternoon but appears to have recovered some overnight. Light onshore breeze under grey skies. Mostly shorebreak. 4.9ft high tide now then 2.75ft low @ 13:20 and a 5.6ft high tide @ 19:00 would wash it out if not for the fact that all the bars capable of taking south swell seem to have been swept away with hurricane Marie and her friends so it'll be variable shorebreak all day anyway. Best bet is still west marin or maybe even OB today. If yesterdays any indicator there may be some fun windswell shorebreak bowls in the afternoon if you don't have the time to make the drive to the bo-factory.

2014.9.16

The south swell is coming! The south swell is coming!! WARNING: This swell may be small at the moment but is LONG period with HIGH consistency. Things can change fast out there, especially around the tide swing so know your limits. Bolinas is probably the best bet today as the little reef 'the patch' will work it on most tides with a period this long. See video below if you need convincing.

REPORT: wind is light offshore at 7:00 when I checked it. Sun will be out shortly and the tide is too damn high. This swell is still small but at a 20 sec period but really consistent right now and will be building in size throughout the day. Any southward facing reefs you know of will probably be a good bet for today as most sand bars probably haven't recovered from the beatings they've taken this past month. If you're unsure where to go grab your longboard (seriously 7ft + don't fuck around with a fish) and go out to the patch at bolinas. Don't believe me? I wen't out there on the Marie swell and got some of the longest waves of my life; check out the vid below.

Photos @ 14:10
No pictures until early this afternoon, sorry folks. Based on the buoy reading I'd suspect surf much like yesterday mornings. Pushing from the 8:30 low into some powerful shoulders then slowly and consistently shutting down in the last 3ish hours building into 15:20 high tide. Later high just about kills any chance at good afternoon waves so get it before noon if you can, otherwise look for just it just starting to work again right before dark.

A trickle of the forecast SW started showing on the buoys early this morning at a 22 sec period. Hopefully it'll fill in with time and bring some consistency. In the mean time we've got a 10 sec period WNW swell with some actual lines showing up in the water this morning despite the high tide. Looking waist to chest high VERY squishy near-shore break ATM likely getting better with the 2.4ft low tide at 14:40. Push to the 6.6ft high at 20:50 will probably show better surf as well.

Another day with little to no breaking surf. There appears to be a little bit of 10 sec period WNW swell that jumped in consistency yesterday afternoon and may still be around to an extent. It did look like there was more energy out there this morning despite it remaining almost entirely shore break. The waves are small however so it'll be VERY tide dependent weather or not that swell will generate any fun funboard/longboard waves. 4.75ft high at 8:50 followed by a .75ft low at 13:40 then a big 6.4ft high at 19:45. VERY low consistency this morning with equally small waves. 8ish o'clock high tide isn't helping things but the 3ft low at 12:30 probably won't lend much help ether. Another high tide at 6:30 will drown any dreams of dinker waves this evening.
