2015.10.27

Wind light cross shore. Waves in the chest high range and easily going head high possibly + on the best sets. Fading swell is the game today for the NW but the SW swell is supposed to hold solid and be throwing some lines. Come and get some if you can today as it's likely the most user friendly we'll see this week.

  1. Hey there Joe, I figured you could also start doing an advice column as well so I'll start. I've been reading the reports of this group of GW's heading up the California coast and they've recently been spotted in the Pacifica/Ocean Beach area. Why do you think they're traveling together and so close all of a sudden? Is it safe for a surfing newbie like myself, or anyone to be in the water? Has this group of GW's developed some form of communication and they're planning a take over? Is Cron safer than Pacifica/OB?
    Thanks very much!

  2. My personal and largely uneducated guess would be that warmer water is working a number on the food chains around here and that the conditions for white sharks feeding close to the coast are better than normal. The warmer water we're having is likely driving fish out further and down deeper. I think the lack of fish close to shore is driving seals into deeper water and making them easier targets for the whites. I'm sure the situation is more complex than that but in the end I think your biggest dangers during each surf session are in driving to the beach, hitting bottom after a wipeout and getting caught in a rip current/fast rising storm swell. With regards to that OB is more dangerous than Cron and Cron is more dangerous than Pacifica. My recommendation is educate yourself -- http://goo.gl/jQ5RJy & go get some waves
